What are WEEE Regulations?

  • Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006
  • The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive aims to reduce the amount of WEEE being disposed in landfills by promoting separate collection, treatment and recycling.
  • Require producers to take responsibility for funding collection, treatment and recycling of WEEE
  • Final Regulations due December 2006 become Law January 2007 rolled out in stages until July 2007
  • Domestic users – free take back of WEEE on new like for like sales
  • Retailers – provide arrangements in-store or via distributor takeback scheme
  • Producers – fund CT&R of WEEE
  • Business end users – fund CT&R of “old” WEEE, if not replacing it by like for like; and “new” WEEE BY AGREEMENT only
